vote tick

Make sure you vote on November 4th.  There is a great fundamental difference in candidates.  One important change is their view of gun owners and our right to own.

Regardless of your choice - it is very important to vote.

 Work Day Report

We had a couple of work days at the range; Friday, September 26 and Sunday, September 28.

We would like to that those that showed up - Blind Justice and Arcadia Outlaw, in addition to some of the committee members - Deadwood Woody, Rock'n Rob, Half Breed, Sassy Teton Lady, Dan Blocker, Eagle Eye James.

We did a lot of work around the range and in the town.  We cleaned, painted, cleaned and painted some more. In the town at the Saloon, the deck was extended out and made the full length of that portion of the town.  This will make that area a little more versatile as well as more handicap accessible.

The targets are being cleaned a few at a time as this has turned into a very time consuming task.  There are years of paint to be removed. The tables and benches at the town were cleaned and painted. We still have more to do on the "honey do list".  Have a few hours and want to help.  We would love to have your assistance.  Just get in touch with a committee member.

Lake County Pistoleros Annual Match

March 20-22, 2009

Ides of March

This years theme will be

Buffalo Bills Wild West Extravaganza.

We have had a couple of sponsors sign up and donate prizes for our prize pool

Best Western Lake County Inn & Suites has donated 2 certificates for a weekend at their hotel. This will be for a King Suite and can be used one day at a time or for the weekend.  The expiration will be March 2010. The current rate for a suite is $150 a night.  So this will make for a couple of nice weekends.  They have also given us a special rate for the Ides weekend.  Check it out if you need to make reservations for the Ides.

Rif Raf's (formely Dizzy's) has donated some gift certificates.  They are located down the street from the range at the corner of CR 561 and Lane Park Cutoff (5 minutes after you leave the range). They are under new management and ownership and are looking forward to having us stop by after our monthly shoots. Their menu consists of wings, burgers, salads, sandwiches, along with a full bar.

Whenever possible, it would be nice to stop by and thank them for supporting our club and shoot.

Know anyone who would like to become a sponsor.  The forms and information are here on the website.   Sponsor information

Easy Tick Removal:

Submitted by Eagle Eyes James
Please forward to anyone with children... with dogs or hunters, or anyone who even steps outside in summer!!

A School Nurse has written the info below -- good enough to share. And it really works!!

I had a doctor tell me what he believes is the best way to remove a tick. This is great, because it works in those places where it's sometimes difficult to get to with tweezers: between toes, in the middle of a
head full of dark hair, etc.

Apply a glob of liquid soap to a cotton ball. Cover the tick with the soap-soaked cotton ball and swab it for a few seconds (15-20), the tick will come out on its own and be stuck to the cotton ball when you lift it away.

This technique has worked every time I've used it (and that was frequently!!), and it's much less traumatic for the patient and easier for me.

Unless someone is allergic to soap, I can't see that this would be damaging in any way. I even had my doctor's wife call me for advice because she had one stuck to her back, and she couldn't reach it with tweezers. She used this method and immediately called back to say, "It worked!"

Annual Country Jamboree in Barberville

Nov. 1st and 2nd

Each fall the Pioneer Settlement, in Barberville, Fl., has their annual country jamboree. My friend is the Director of facility. It is two days of artists, food, music, story tellers, demonstrations, Indian camps, tractors, blacksmiths, coopers, and all things of the 19th century.

The settlement explores and maintains a living history program through which thousands of students experience each year. It is a real blast and could be a lot of fun.

If any SASS members would like to promote our passion to the general public we can have a spot complete with Florida Steers. We can set up a camp and show off all our gear and generate a buzz that promotes gun safety, gun education, family fun and a bit of the game.

The only caveat is no live rounds on site. Lodging and details can be discussed later, I live 2 miles from the settlement, we don't have to sleep there, unless you want to.

Here's a chance to just not play cowboy, but live it, educate others.

Sincerely,

Marshal John B. Stetson

Ruckus at the T & R

by Sammy 2 Feathers

Very few gunmen,

ever get to retire.

Most die before their time,

with names drug through mire.

But one such individual,

whose skill has seen him through.

Goes by the name Old Glory,

here’s how the legend grew.

Quicker than a rattler,

as cold as mountain snow.

Only one could tame him,

The Lady Robin we all know.

The two did settle down,

and Deadwood was the place.

Full of nefarious characters,

who set a deadly pace.

The couple thought about it,

and opened up a bar.

A place to call their own,

they called it T & R.

They kept warm in the winter,

in summers they stayed cool.

The beer flowed like water,

the carpentry made you drool.

But trouble came a callin,

on one hot August night.

A badly reputed outlaw,

came spoiling for a fight.

Supposed to be the fastest,

Darby Hill was his name.

Looking for another notch,

to solidify his fame.

He sauntered to the bar,

with henchmen counting four.

Shoving some aside,

pushing others to the floor.

“Me and my gang,

are looking for some fun!

We’ve heard of a couple,

who’re handy with a gun.”

With pistols out of holsters,

they were shooting up the bar.

Lady Robin started shouting,

“Boys you’ve gone too far!”

“The hell you say!” Said Hill,

and recommenced to shootin.

Old Glory yelled out loud!

“Some asses need a bootin!”

“You can leave still breathing,

but gone you’d better get.

Or we’ll weigh you down with lead,

and boys this ain’t no threat!”

Hill and his cut-throats,

decided to make their play.

Turned their guns upon them,

and thus began the fray.

Lady Robin’s shotgun,

started belching fire and shot.

Old Glory’s Colt’s were barking,

the action turned real hot!!

Guns blazed with deafening roar,

lead zipped here and there.

Bottles broken, mirrors smashed,

with chairs thrown everywhere.

The dust did finally settle,

5 outlaws breathed no more.

Bet they would have wished,

they picked another score.

One thing in particular,

which we all thought a hoot.

Old Glory blew that Darby Hill

clear out his left boot.

We buried Hill and all his men,

in Boot Hill that next day.

Hill’s boot was made a tip jar,

and on the wall it stays.

It’ll serve as a reminder,

they don’t want trouble in this bar.

Just drink your beer real peaceful like,

When you’re at the T & R
